Our Story

GrapeCity was founded in Sendai, Japan in the early 1950’s by a group of American immigrants to Japan. The Company started with a focus on being the highest quality English education provider in Japan. Soon after, we established several world-class elementary schools in northern Japan. After much success, we expanded into technology and software. Through organic growth and acquisitions, the company today has a global footprint servicing numerous industries in both developed and developing countries.

GrapeCity viewed the introduction of the first personal computers in 1980 as a great opportunity to streamline the Meysen Schools’ operations. The company’s first product was LeySer Services for school management. LeySer has now evolved into a comprehensive solution used by the majority of private schools in Japan to manage accounting, student admissions, resource planning, and more.

GrapeCity realized that developers globally needed highly capable software building blocks - known as off-the-shelf software components - to enhance their products due largely to the growth of the Microsoft software platform. We launched the award-winning Developer Tools business to meet this global opportunity.
